SWTPA News_______________
July 23rd Update: NEXT SHOW………………JULY 26th Let’s make sure everyone keeps their
horses as cool as possible and MAKE SURE they get plenty of water !! …….It’s gonna be
hot. Thanks to everyone
that supported us at our June show. We
ran 268 teams
despite the storms that came through in the afternoon. Gist decided to kick in a few extra bucks
for us this month and gave us enough to give out a buckle in every class as
an added bonus. Next month we’ll go back to only having the novice, am, and
pro, but this was an added bonus for this show only. Next show, same rule will apply…..only one
day buckle per person for the year. Here are the June GIST buckle winners: Sorting #10

and STANDINGS
are up to date. Special thanks to Dennis and Letha Brooks
for donating the wonderful grill to the association to raffle off (Here’s a picture if you didn’t see it). We raised a bunch of money for year end
prizes. The lucky winner of the grill
was Cody McCutchin. Let’s also take a minute to thank Cathy Findley
for donating a wonderful lunch to everyone.
We all threw a few bucks in a jar to help her pay for it all, and she
just donated back $100 for the youth. Bryan Kammerdiener was able to get the Big Ass Fan installed before our show,
so that was a tremendous help. He is
certainly making investments that are making it better for all of us. We will continue to
sell SWTPA tee shirts at the next
show. SWTPA riders will be allowed to wear SWTPA tee shirts when they ride. Our dress code will remain in effect for
any other clothing. Any funds
collected from the sale of the tee shirts will go back to year end prizes. NTPC Affiliation……………..we are now affiliated with
NTPC. I will be sending our results in
tomorrow. Special Thanks to Dale
Snyder for his dedication and effort to make this happen. A lot of you have been asking for this, so
now you will get NTPC credit/points when you ride at SWTPA. Check out their website if you haven’t
already. They will be bringing us lots
of support via sponsorships and year end prizes and money. NTPC aligns well with us because they are
dedicated to making the sport grow. If
you’re not a member, I will have NTPC membership forms available, or you can
do that online. If you are already an
NTPC member, just ride and have fun, and I’ll send in the results and you’ll
get your NTPC credit. Much more to
follow as this develops. Congratulations
to all of our June Gist Buckle Winners

5 Beverly Kelley Look to Southwest Team Penning Association to set the
pace again this year. Absolutely
the best payouts/awards/prizes AND PEOPLE anywhere. SWTPA is one of the largest associations in
the state, and it is managed with a dedicated group of people who genuinely
care about the sport. SWTPA is run
with honesty and integrity. Our 2007 Finals were a huge success, and
we’ve got bigger plans for 2008. What
happened at the 2007 Finals WOW………………… 219 teams at the 2007 finals….the
toughest competition we’ve seen at SWTPA.
Everyone did a great job. The final
standings out there for the year, as well as
the results from the final show.
SWTPA gave away over $35000 worth of Vinton Saddles, Gist Buckles,
Cash and other nice prizes. . Go to
the results page and check out the money our contestants won at the
finals. This is why people ride SWTPA. If you want to see
pictures, Letha has updated her page to have all of our awards pictures out
on her site as well as the standard show photos. The link directly to the awards is http://www.photobiz.com/portfolio/layouts/1/gallerym.cfm?eventID=108626&galleryID=156087

weren’t able to make the SWTPA finals, you
missed a great show. Ask around,
you’ll see why SWTPA is the place to pen.
Next year……more Vinton Saddles, more Gist Buckles, more added money
and even nicer prizes. I compiled the 2007 EARNINGS for all our
Southwest Team Penning Association riders in 2007. To see the report CLICK HERE I want to take this
opportunity to thank everyone for being so supportive. SWTPA certainly hopes that everyone
enjoys themselves at our shows, and we try to make it fun for everyone. Anybody is welcome, so come out, have fun,
enjoy yourself and take a shot at winning some money as well as making new
friends. Our first show for 2008 is January 26th, so mark your
calendars. The arena is comfortable no
matter what the weather is like, so don’t miss out. High Point
GIST Buckles at every show again in 2008 Our
intention is to make SWTPA association where we are not just “chasing points” all
year. We want people to be able to
come to any show and have chances
of winning gifts and prizes to avoid people dropping out throughout the
year. Gist buckles will be one of our
primary sponsors this year, so we will be giving out the best buckles money
can buy at every show. There will be
High Point Novice, SWTPA Website (www.swtpa.com) The
website will be updated and kept current at all times. I will make sure that the points and
standings will be updated in 3-5 working days. I will also start including areas for
photos and make sure that all the buckle winners and other significant
winners get recognition on the website.
Spring Creek Arena (www.springcreekarena.com)
There is
no question ….this is the place to pen and have fun. I have been placed in the position of
making SWTPA grow, and there is no doubt I take that role very
seriously. All the gimmicks in the
world won’t make this sport better….most have been
tried. The key is to listen to the
members, make it fun, and get the participation up to a point where the
payouts are good and the people are having fun. It is also important to our lesser riders
to have open riders that take the time to coach them and help them get
better. This makes the association
grow. The open riders are our mentors
and role models (scared yet?), and I am doing all I can to instill that
mentality. The arena offers all the physical attributes we could possibly
need. We sort in pens that are side by
side, so the sorting goes fast. The
team at Spring Creek sets up/tears down all the pens. The cows are tagged and ready when we get
there and there are additional herds available if we need them.(4 herds is our base)
The pricing structure is set up so that we don’t have to pay for herds
that we don’t need, so the gambling is eliminated on how many cows we’ll need
at any show which helps us control costs.
I would suggest you come pen on these cows if
you are concerned about the quality.
The concession stand is awesome, the restrooms are clean, and there
are plenty of electrical hookups and stalls available for you to spend the
night if you choose. Other Stuff I would
like to get everyone home at a decent hour, so I will do my best to keep the
show moving. I am
available anytime for questions, comments, or complaints. My cell is 214 536-2964 and my email is teampenner@hughes.net ……so don’t be bashful… I am here to
help. Always
looking for a time on 9 Brian Bouska |
